Jason Castro
Jason Castro, inspired by a few and inspiring for many, has captured the hearts of people all over the nation.
Jason has certainly captured the hearts of people all over the nation. Including critical Simon, who told Jason after he finished singing “Over the Rainbow” on American Idol, April 8th, that his performance was “…Fantastic!”
Jason, a supposedly “normal” 21 year old, is living his faith out in front of others… in front of America. What started it all? A phrase of advice that Jason gives to all who ask, “Be something unique and undeniable.”
Jason is unique all right. He has a wonderful passion for music and loves to be with his family. Actually, his family members were the first ones to suggest auditioning for American Idol when, after pressing him to sing at a family get-together, they “accidentally” discovered, after 20 years, that Jason could sing. Jason himself had only discovered this new talent about a year before and had been perfecting his voice in a park across the street from where he lived. With only the birds in the trees as his audience he worked and worked until he asked Danny and Suzanne Davis, worship leaders at Jason’s home church—Lake Pointe Baptist, to listen to him and tell him what they thought about his voice. He sang and according to Living Magazine their response was, Jason “…that was amazing! And you have wonderful, raw talent …”
Danny and Suzanne put Jason ‘front and center’ on Sunday morning and let him lead the whole church in worship. Afterwards he told them that that was actually one of his very first times to sing in public. Now Jason has performed numerous times on American Idol.
In a recent interview with Americanidol.com Jason was asked, “… if becoming America’s next ‘idol’ doesn’t work out, what will you do?” He answered by saying, “Maybe I will finish school…” Maybe? Why maybe? It is because his real life’s goal is to “…be a loving father, a faithful husband, and a servant to all.” For now, Jason has put school and having a family out on the back burner. But, as for being a “servant to all” he is still actively doing that with a whole heart.
